Through the Trees is a research institute that studies how communities know, navigate, and sustain life through environmental change.
Through research, storytelling, and knowledge exchange, we examine how community knowledge, lived experience, anti-colonial approaches, and diverse ways of knowing can help reimagine adaptation in ways that are relational, just, and rooted in place.
Our Solutions Framework
Through the Trees explores climate solutions through three interconnected themes that shape our research, partnerships, publications, and community collaborations.
-
How do we co-design climate solutions ethically, inter-generationally and reciprocally through participatory knowledge creation and lived experiences?
-
How are climate solutions shaped through institutions, policy, and participation and how can adaptation governance better connect institutions, communities, and lived experience?
-
How do we know communities are adapting in ways that are just, relational, and meaningful?
